Mythical Mermaid Tail

Yes, I know that Mermaids is stretching this "Sea Creature" collection a little far, but to be fair, this was initially going to be a whale tail but I felt it needed a little more ✨pizzaz.✨

Now I can revisit the whale tail idea in the future, knowing that its possible. As far as making shaped hoops, this one was pushing everything that I've learned so far to the edge. In the end, I'm really glad I went for it. 

You'll notice the photo of the 'scratch', the reason for the discount on the piece. I don't see any damage telling me that its an actual scratch. I think it is an unmixed particle of the pink paint I used to get this color for the frame. When I paint anything I am usually mixing colors to find the right shade and I think it just got smeared with a paint brush during painting. This particular paint has a metallic almost color shifting effect in different light, So I didn't notice until after the paint was sealed and it was in different light. 

However, pink glass is more expensive than others (yes, even the scraps) and its the last of this kind that I have. So, while discounted for the scratch, its made up for by the pink glass used. 

The tail measures 12 x 9 inches at the widest/tallest points. The frame is painted a blue/purple color with a metallic like finish. Adorned with glass beads as scales and a mosaiced pink glass tail fin. Backed with dyed fabric and dyed jute cord embellishments & finished with hoop# and two dyed thread hangers.

Glass pieces have been upcycled from other artists in the stained glass community gracious enough to send them my direction. Some pieces have been purchased from retailers, but out of the scrap piles.
